Although you are using Facebook(widely used social media application) but you may not be aware of the Off-Facebook activity, so what is this activity and what it does ?
What is off-Facebook activity?
In very simple word and according to Facebook it is an activity which monitors or get informations what we do outside FB (like online transactions, shopping, & using other apps) and it is a summary of activity that businesses and organizations share with Facebook about your interactions, such as visiting their apps or websites. Here interactions means visiting their website or logging into their app with Facebook. Off-Facebook activity does not include customer lists that businesses use to show a unique group of customers relevant ads.
I just added a screenshot you can see how few of the apps and sites shared my activity to facebook.
But, one more best thing Facebook provides you is, you can control the data. In response to this, Facebook now lets you see a summary of the information it collects about your activity outside of its app, and lets you ‘control’ it by disconnecting that activity from your account. And You have the option to choose whether you want to disconnect your off-Facebook activity or select specific websites to clear any data Facebook already has collected about you. And Facebook prohibits businesses or organizations to share sensitive information with them(Facebook), such as health and financial information, your date of birth and passwords.
What Facebook does with your Off-Facebook activity ?
- By using your data Facebook show you more relevant ads, but you can customize your ad experience using Ad Preferences section.
- Identifies suspicious activity to help keep Facebook safe.
- It helps to get information about new business and brands.
- It as well helps businesses and organizations to understand how their website, app or ads are performing and whether they’re reaching the right people.
